The old site was a creaky pile of legacy code. It was fragile, difficult to work with, full of out dated and irrelevant information, and most important, it wasn’t responsive. The new site features a modern, full width design from School of Thought, and allows consumers to quickly and easily find the key information they are looking for, whether it’s a lodging location, the latest deals, a nearby restaurant, and the events happening in the region, it’s all immediately available regardless of the device being used to access the site.
Images are very important for a tourism destination, especially a destination as beautiful as Lake Tahoe, so the site offers many places where images can be used. In addition, two image dimensions can be uploaded for header images, one size for desktop and tablets, and another for mobile. We used picturefill.js to manage mobile images in the headers.
Listings, lodging, restaurants, services, etc., are a custom post type built with the WPMUdev Directory plugin. The deals being offered by listings are also created using the WPMUdev Directory plugin, with additional fields added using Advanced Custom Fields Pro.
Events are managed using The Events Calendar plus several premium extensions. Events on the home page expire automatically.
The site also features a custom slide out menu.
